Health Effects of Metals in Native American Communiites: A Longitudinal Multi-omics Study (SHS Ancillary)
Arsenic and uranium are metal contaminants found in polluted areas throughout the USA, including abandoned mines and Superfund sites. Arsenic an uranium are also found natrually in groundwater. It is possible that exposure to these contaminants increase risk of diabetes and heart disease. The goal of this study is to better understand if exposure to arsenic and uranium in the past and present influence development of diabetes, heart disease and other health outcomes. The team will also evaluate how these metals affect the way genes work by measuring DNA methylation.
